To be beautiful is one of the biggest dreams (sometimes subconscious) of every person. We wear fashionable clothes, change the color of our hair, go in for sport to look more young and beautiful. Of course, we do not forget about the state of our skin, trying to improve it with different creams and lotions and sometimes with the help of the sun (getting sunburnt to match the ideal of beauty).

Surely, skin is a sort of natural cloth for our body, which makes us beautiful. At the same time it also fulfills a protective function; therefore it is always on the line of fire. The mighty safeguard of ours often suffers from the biting wind, dry air and the scorching sun. It needs protection as well.

It is a common knowledge that the first real skin problem arises in the period of puberty. Many adolescents suffer psychologically when acne appears. To solve this problem, there exists a range of FDA approved medications, like Retin A and Renova. Nevertheless, skin of the teens is smooth and elastic.

Age and sunlight are the worst vampires which drain our skin, making it wrinkled, red, itching, covered with age spots.

They say that the best way to keep our skin healthy is to stay out of the sun. First of all, ultraviolet light ruins the skin fibers - elastin. Its absence results in wrinkles, because skin loses the ability to snap back after stretching. By the way, scientists suppose that nicotine acts the same; that is why smokers tend to have more wrinkles than people who do not smoke.

Ultraviolet radiation can lead to even more dangerous consequences for our natural safeguard. People with fair complexion and freckles are especially vulnerable to its influence. I mean that ultraviolet radiation can cause cancer. Basal and squamous cell carcinomas and melanoma are the most common. All these forms must be treated before they spread to the other parts of the body. The change of the skin, a sore that does not heal, any kind of lump that appears on the skin surface can be a warning sign.

Age spots are also the result of the sunlight influence. We can get rid of them with the help of skin-lightening creams or laser therapy. It is also advisable to avoid sun-the-vampire.

Age is another vampire that spoils our skin. Older people sweat less, therefore the dryness increases. With a lapse of time skin becomes thinner, as it loses fat and connective tissue. That is why it looks less smooth and plump, plus it is more susceptible to injury. The result is an increased number of bruises on the legs and arms of older people, even if these areas are covered with clothes.

Itching skin is one more problem of older people. Overheating, sunlight, air conditioning, and wind influence result in low humidity of our safeguard. It reacts immediately: it becomes easily irritated. Dry, itching skin needs moisturizing, the use of milder soap and bathing in rather warm than hot water. At the same time, it can be a symptom of diabetes or kidney disease. To be on the safe side, it is necessary to see a doctor.

Unfortunately, the vampires mentioned above are not afraid of garlic and aspen stakes. Nevertheless, we can keep them at a distance for some time. Moisturizing and revitalizing crèmes, lotions and ointments; healthy and nutritious food; sport and the right lifestyle will preserve our youth and beauty.
