Top Serious Skin Problems

To tell the truth, I have never considered skin to be a body part, the healthy condition of which is of the same importance as that of a heart or liver. But after studying a mass of materials about skin diseases I have understood that it is a big mistake of mine and obviously I am not alone in such a false treating of the problem, because we observe (taking into account) a great number of skin diseases and their spreading among the people. According to different resources there are approximately 50-80 disorders in skin condition, treated as the diseases. Happily only a couple of them are fatal and these are very rare.

The most common skin or dermatologic diseases are: Psoriasis Pruritus Acne Rosacea Cellulite and Cellulitis Skin cancer

Psoriasis Psoriasis is a common skin disease considered to be chronic, but non-contagious. This disease got its name in 1841 from Greek word, meaning “itching”, though itching is not the biggest problem with psoriasis.

It usually appears on skin of knees, elbows, scalp or trunk in the form of red patches with a flaky white buildup. As a result, people with psoriasis experience not only physical symptoms, like inching and pain, but also significant psychological problems, like depression or decreased level of self-esteem due to the unsatisfied look of the skin.

For the time being different forms of psoriasis are problems of about 2.6% of Americans. About 80% of them have plaque psoriasis, which may appear anywhere on the skin as the plaque spots.

The reason of psoriasis is not clear yet. Doctors believe that certain fault signals of the immune system is the main cause, leading to disorder in skin cells life cycle.

Psoriasis is treated with the help of different means, like topical medications, ultraviolet light therapy, oral pills or even X-ray radiation.

Pruritus It is an example of human ignorance in skin diseases. The majority of people (if not all) experience itching, not even knowing that it is a medical condition, called Pruritus.

This skin problem can appear as a separate disease, caused by skin dryness, or as a symptom of more serious conditions, like psoriasis or eczema.

Pruritus itself does not cause any skin changes; it is only the sensation of itching or rubbing. Therefore, it is a signal of organism to make us pay attention to the skin condition. In fact, by itching skin tells us that something irritates it.

Often to avoid pruritus, cleaning and moisturizing of skin is enough. Sometimes it is necessary to get rid of irritating agent, causing itching. I mean irritating in medical sense, because one’s chief or wife can also irritate greatly, but this does not lead to pruritus anyway. Doctors consider low humidity, foreign body (e.g., fiberglass or hair), detergents, excessive bathing or contact with pets are the most common irritating agents, causing Pruritus.

In case, soft soap and moisturizing cream do not help, it is better to consult a dermatologist or family doctor.

Acne Acne is an inflammatory disease, which is often considered to be a “teenagers’ problem”. Though acne usually appears in adolescents boys during puberty, it also can be observed in older people. Acne vulgaris is the most common form of the disease.

It appears as papules, pustules or nodules on skin. These lesions develop when the skin pores (hair follicles) are blocked by dead cells. As a result, a capsule is formed, where many bacteria start to multiply in an uncontrolled manner. This is usually followed by inflammatory process, causing redness of skin around the blocked pore.

Rosacea Rosacea is a chronic skin disease, affecting about 45 million people worldwide. It may start as just flushing and redness on the nose, cheeks or forehead, irritation of eyes and eyelids. When untreated, Rosacea can cause permanent skin changes: red spots, bumps, small blood vessels visible near the surface of the skin or even more serious consequences, like disfiguring of nose and eye problems.

The exact reason of Rosacea is unknown. Different theories explain this problem by damaging of blood vessels of fair face skin or by hereditary factors.

Laser and oral antibiotics are common treatment options for Rosacea, though they may vary from patient to patient.

Cellulite and Cellulitis

It looks like Cellulite is one of that curses, God sent to all the women for their crime, committed in Eden garden. The beautiful forms of female body are the main weapon of women, at the same time women should pay such a great price to keep this weapon in appropriate state.

It is interesting to note that there are two notions in medicine – cellulite and cellulitis, both referred to as skin problems. Cellulite is non-pathological condition, featuring skin dimpling and making women exercise and keep to a diet in order to restore the skin firmness and beauty of body shape.

Cellulitis is the skin disease, caused by bacteria and followed by inflammation of the connective tissue beneath the skin. It is characterized by redness, swelling, warmth and pain on the area, where bacterial infection started.

Unlike Cellulite, Cellulitis can be rather easily treated with the help of oral antibiotic pills. Unfortunately there is no pill to get rid of cellulite; women should work hard not to let it affect the skin.

Skin cancer This is the most serious skin problem, which undoubtedly can persuade people to pay attention to skin condition, in case all the previous descriptions have not succeeded in this task.

Actually, skin cancer is the most common form cancer. This fact proves once again that skin is not only the base surface to put make-up or clothing on, it is the first line of organism’s defense stopping multiple bacteria, viruses and ultraviolet radiation, thus its condition (health) is of vital importance for us.

There are melanoma and non-melanoma types of skin cancer. The most aggressive and dangerous form is melanoma, growing quickly and killing not only skin cells, but also cells and tissues of other organs.

To make the description’s ending not so pessimistic, I would like to emphasize the fact that skin cancer (as well as other diseases) can be effectively cured provided that they are found on the initial stage of their development. Thus, the increased care and attention to your own skin will undoubtedly be rewarded by beauty and health.
