Myths and Reality about Skin Care

The true beauty comes from inside, or maybe it is not always true? Is it enough to be a kind and generous person to produce a good impression on the opposite sex? Does beautiful and healthy skin play an important role in our self perception or form just another theoretical myth?

There are myths and there is reality. Every generation seems to have been following its own false statements concerning skin care. Every time we hear a piece of advice that sounds easy and cheap to our ears we try to put it into practice. And we are doing so in spite of our conviction that there are no easy and simple ways in achieving our purposes, especially in such a complicated matter as skin care.

We should know to differentiate some widely spread myths in order to be able to take the right care of our skin.

Myth #1. You should thoroughly wash your face with soap. The truth is you should really wash your face and get rid of excessive dirt and oil. But soap makes your face too clean and strips its skin of essential oils and substances. Your face will be vulnerable because its pH is out of order and it is not properly protected. The right way is to use water-soluble, soap-free cleanser which removes dirt and make-up rests but doesn’t leave skin without moisture.

Myth #2. Your eating habits don’t affect skin. There are many controversial opinions on this point. But in general what you eat is important not only to your skin, but to the whole organism. When you are ill (and the food you consume play not the last role in this fact), your skin can’t but show the traces of it. It will never look healthy and beautiful. The best advice is to avoid fat food, lots of sweets and chocolate, alcohol and pay a special attention to fruits and vegetables.

Myth #3. You should drink a lot of water. Drinking a lot of liquid in general is very healthy and does a world of good to the whole body. But it doesn’t have a great impact on your complexion and skin.

Myth #4. Sun makes no harm to your skin. It is a dream of nearly every woman to look tanned and just from the beach. But the truth is that the UV rays are not that harmless. They affect our skin aging it faster, causing sometimes different allergies and skin problems. You should always wear at least a SPF 15 moisturizer.

Myth #5 (continuation of myth #4). Dark skin does not need sun protection It is a big error. Every type of skin needs to be protected to avoid early aging and forming skin diseases including cancer. Dark skin can also get red and burned when it becomes too much sun. Daily applications of moisturizing means would be very helpful.

Myth #6. You should get enough night sleep. One says when you sleep at night your skin regenerates faster. But the truth is that the skin regenerates and form new cells not only at night, but at day time as well.

Myth #7. Everybody’s skin needs to be moisturized In reality you need to moisturize only a dry type skin on a daily basis. More frequently and to all kinds of skin a good moisturizer should be used in cold weather. You should also moisturize your skin when it has redness or scaliness.

And the last but not least Myth #8. There are so many skin care products that to choose one is not a problem. The cosmetic industry does really its best to provide our market with different lotions, moisturizes, make up removers, cleanser, toners and other beauty products. But making our choice we should be very careful and pay a good attention to such factors as our skin type and its predisposition to various substances, purpose and function of a concrete product, its ingredients, product packaging and some others.

With all the existing myths seducing us into buying new cosmetic products the best way is to stay cool and follow our inner voice and common sense. Our skin is too precious to make experiments on it. The best choice would be every day care with approved and certified skin products. The most consistent and long-term results can be achieved only when we are doing something with persistence and care.
