Why do we need to protect our skin from sun’s rays?
Our body needs sun's rays in moderate quantities, as they are responsible for various processes in our body, including supplying it with essential vitamin D for healthy work of our bones, raises up our mood and enthusiasm, its heat increases perspiration and can even cure some ailments. Sun is the best ‘medication’ to treat depression, stress and fever.
All we need is to get all the benefit from sun, minimizing harmful effect. For each person there is a certain portion of sun rays that is useful, depending on his or her skin, hair and eyes color, and some other factors.
When we say ‘sun’s rays’, we mean its rays of different length. Longer rays are called UVA, shorter – UVB. UVB rays affect the body, so it begins to protect itself with the help of the chemical ‘melatonin’, which is responsible for tanning. These rays in big quantities can cause sunburn and other dangerous effects, such as skin cancer and premature aging. UVA rays are longer and penetrate deeper into the skin, which is more dangerous (especially when in big quantities). They are responsible for damage of skin (sunburn), different possible allergic reactions, wrinkles, melanoma and some other types of skin cancer.
UVA rays are ultraviolet rays of type A, UVB rays - ultraviolet rays of type B. Each sunscreen offers your skin a certain UVB protection, which is called ‘sun protection factor’ or SPF. But good sunscreen should deliver also UVA protection that nowadays can’t be exactly measured (and can’t be shown in numbers, as SPF is).
What differs Anthelios sunscreen from other products?
Most of the sunscreens available on the market offer you only the UVB protection. It means you will have a nice tan without getting sunburn, but your skin is not protected from skin aging and cancer. Anthelios sunscreen offers you a lot more:
- It contains Mexoryl, an ingredient that gives protection both from UVA and UVB rays (Mexoryl is also available as a daily moisturizing cream called Anthelios SX)
- It is photostable (which means it doesn’t degrade when exposed to sunlight)
- It can have very high SPF protection (for example Anthelios XL SPF 60) the longest sun protection available
- It maintains its protection even 24 hours after you apply it on your skin
- It is also available in different formulations: sunscreen for different types of skin, for morning or evening use, the one that moisturizes your skin more or less (and it feels like a lotion), in little convenient or big application and others
- Special charts that are available online and call canters can easily help you to determine which Anthelios sunscreen product is best suited for you: with Mexoryl SX or Mexoryl XL, with or without fragrance, for face or for body (or both), for what type of skin (and for sensitive skin as well), with what SPF, and many other issues. All these are managed for you to help you choose what your skin really needs
-
Anthelios sunscreens work mainly in two ways: in physical and chemical levels.
- Physical level: such components as titanium dioxide and zinc oxide help to prevent physical penetration of UV rays (they stay on the skin surface and work there without penetration)
- Chemical level: Mexoryl is one of its agents; some others are octocrylene and avobenzone. These components also protect your skin from dangerous rays, but their work grounds on interacting with your skin on chemical level
Anthelios sunscreens nowadays are highly recommended by many dermatologists and healthcare professionals as safe and effective sunscreens.
