What Is Obesity?

When we see a very fat person we often think: "Poor thing!" or "He (she) eats too much!" , or "My God! Look! He (she) is so big!" But do we understand how hard the life of such people is if we are not obese ourselves? I do not think so. Unfortunately nowadays the number of obese people is increasing every year. So what does the term "obesity" mean?

Obesity is a synonym to overweight but has a...heavier character. In medicine obesity is a serious, chronic disease that is known to reduce life span, increase disability and lead to many illnesses. In common words it is the constant process of adding in weight.

People of different age and gender suffer from obesity all over the world. This problem has reached epidemic proportions. In fact obesity touches mostly black women and the Mexican American men at the age of 45-65, but it's just statistics. You may say they should eat less but everything is not so easy (besides, who does not like eating?!).

A person may add in weight on different reasones. The most unovercoming one is genetic obesity. In this case it's almost impossible to lose weight without surgery interference and even after the operation sometimes beople become overweight again. Among other reasones are lack of physical activity, too much of TV viewing and computer usage, high-calorie foods... So if you spend day by day lying on the sofa, eating popcorn and watching TV and if your parents are overweight, be sure -- soon obesity will come for you.

Some people think that being fat is not bad at all and they would look even nicer being overweight. But that's because they probably do not know other consequences of this disease. The thing is not only in your appearance but in your health first of all.

Obesity causes a number of serious illnesses such as osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, birth defects, breast cancer, cancer of the esophagus & gastric cardia, colorectal cancer, endometrial cancer, renal cell cancer, cardiovascular disease, carpal tunnel syndrome, chronic venous insufficiency, daytime sleepiness, deep vein thrombosis, diabetes (type 2), gallbladder disease, gout, heat disorders and a line of other illnesses some of which may even lead to death!

Perhaps, the wellknown fact that each living being feeds on to continue one's existence is doubted now by many people. But don't lose your appetite at all, otherwise you will suffer from underweight!

Moreover, overweight or obese people (especially children) often experience social discrimination. This causes problems with studying, working and communicating with other people.

How to lose weight quickly? Only with the help of a special operation. But if you are not in a hurry and are afraid of surgery clinics you may try another variant -- "Orlistat". This medicine is quite safe but...slow-working. After using it for 24 weeks you'll lose only about 10 kg. "Orlistat" should be used 3 times per day and only under the doctor's control.

Finally, the slowest but the cheapest and the most natural way of losing weight is increasing one's physical activity (you should go for a walk, play different sport games, forget about your car for at least 2 days per week and, at last, stop lying on the sofa -- go get a job!) plus avoiding fatty food (you should eat more fruits, vegetables and potatoe with bread). Do not keep to any diets -- usually they are useless and work not for long. Of course, to lose weight in this way will take you much longer than 24 weeks. But the choice is up to you.

Now you know what "obesity" is. No matter if you are a man or a woman, being obese will not be useful for you. That's why one should avoid the named above factors which promote obesity.

And one more fact: recently it has been proved that obese women are healthier and hardier than obese men. So who said that women are a weak sex?!

AM.
