I'm a bachelor. Also I live in a tiny apartment I have a dog. She hates cigarettes smoke and smokers in general. Since I am well, actually, I used to be, a smoker too, I was not exclusion. However, I did not notice my dogs reaction to the cigarettes when I took her. She was a little puppy then, and I couldn't even imagine she would become my home doctor. But when she grew up I noticed some strangeness in her behavior. Each time I took a cigarette she began growling, barking, finally, jumping at me and trying to bite!
It all began worrying me a lot, and soon thoughts about hydrophobia crossed my mind. However, our local veterinary calmed me, saying that the dog was absolutely healthy. "She just worries about your health. You know, dog is the best man's friend. Just try not to smoke in her presence."
Since that day I had to leave her in the room, shut the door, and go outside each time I wanted to smoke. Nevertheless, when I was back the smell of cigarettes made her furious and she could bark at me for an hour. Certainly, such care touched me at first; with the lapse of time, though, it began irritating and driving me crazy. It wouldn't have been so annoying if my cigarettes hadn't begun disappearing. Wherever I hid the pack, her keen sense of smell always found it and she made off in unknown direction. Moreover, she left her tracks on my new furniture, clothes, etc - everywhere I tried to hide a pack.

I love my dog but it was beyond me! No matter how many times I scolded her, left her without dinner or outside for a night - nothing worked. Finally, I had to stop keeping cigarettes at home. I bought one cigarette, smoked it somewhere outside, had a walk for an hour or so and only after that returned home. No cigarettes, no cigarettes smell. However, running to the nearest store each time I wanted to smoke didn't suit me at all. It was easier not to smoke. I was shocked - the dog was winning!
Besides, it was not the only thing about my dog that worried me. I was afraid she could go for any smoking passer-by and I would have big problems. Soon my fears came true.
Once I was walking with my dog in the park and met my old friends. We sat down on the bench to chat and I let the dog run around the park. She ran away to play with the other dogs. While we were talking, one of my friends took out a cigarette with a lighter. My eyes started to search the dog nervously. She was standing stone-still and looking at that guy.
"I wouldn't do that, you know... My dog doesn't smoke... I mean, she doesn't like when somebody smokes..." I started bashfully. Both of my friends burst out laughing, "Does she play the role of your wife? Do you obey her? So this is why you do not smoke now! Well, no woman can make ME give up, all the more your dog!" said my friend merrily and exhaled smoke. Hardly had I shifted my gaze to my dog as she was standing in front of my friend, her forepaws on his knees and her spiteful, growling snout just opposite his face - eye to eye. The cigarette dropped out of his mouth. Oh, I forgot to say that my dog is a meter tall.
Well, to sum it up, I can say: I almost don't smoke now, none of my friends smokes being nearby when I'm with my dog, my neighbors don't smoke in the yard any longer, only at home or at a distance. Can you imagine how many lives she saved? It's a truthful saying that dog is the best man's friend! Though my neighbors don't agree with me...
