At high school I had a nick name "Hairy boy". It's not difficult to guess why. I wore a really puffy hairdo. Certainly, such was the fashion of those times and all guys wore such hairdo, but mine was the largest! All school remembered me as a "Hairy boy".
Each 5 years our school organizes a school leavers meeting. I don't like these parties very much, therefore try to avoid them. But last year my best school friend Jacky found out my telephone number and started to call me every day begging to come. "Many years have passed; we haven't seen you for ages! Isn't it interesting for you to see who is who now?" - he whimpered and I changed my mind.
The meeting was to be at our high school at 6 p.m. and everyone was told to be prepared to some kind of a surprise. Well, I decided to come later and to miss this surprise - don't like surprises. I thought everybody would be drunk already and wouldn't notice my appearance. So, I came at 8 p.m.
Hardly had I crossed the threshold when Jacky exclaimed: "Sam? Is that really you? I guess I have found the winner!" He ran up to me, grabbed my hand and drew me to the stage. I didn't understand what was happening: everybody looked strange, wore funny hairdo, strange make-up... I couldn't recognize anyone! Oh, I forgot to say that I wasn't a "Hairy boy" any more. I even had a bald crown! It didn't bother me so never minded it.
On my way to the stage I was trying to find out why I was the winner and why everyone looked so strange. "Don't pretend you haven't heard! At the beginning of the party I (the organizer of the surprise) proclaimed a contest for the best masquerade appearance. The thing is that nobody was prepared for this and we all use everything we have in our pockets or bags. But you look great with this bald!!! How did you do that?" - Jacky was really impressed and didn't listen to me at all. "It's real, Jacky! I didn't do anything, I'm really bald!" - I was shouting to him through the crowd but all was useless.
When we got on the stage the music was turned off; hundreds of eyes were fixed on Jacky and me. He took the microphone and said: "I guess I've found the winner! Having almost nothing ready at hand, as all of us, he managed to make his head bald! Do you recognize our "Hairy boy"?" - shouted Jacky and there came a storm of applause. I was confused and took a microphone: "Hi, everyone...I just want to say... the thing is that it's not make-up... I'm really bald..." The crowd broke into a laugh.
"He also has a sense of humor! He is really the winner! And his prize is.... a romantic evening in the best restaurant of the city! Hey, ladies, any volunteer?" - Jacky didn't calm down. To my surprise a crowd of young women rushed to the stage! I never thought I could be so popular and decided not to insist on my baldness.
This way I became person #1 of the evening doing nothing for that. Thanks to my baldness I had a romantic supper with a charming lady in a beautiful restaurant. Sure I told her the truth about my baldness and we couldn't help laughing for a long time.
