A Journey to the “Quit Smoking” Point

I am not going to continue all the endless tirades about the harmful influence of smoking on human organism, I would like to address this article to those smokers, who have already made the decision to get rid of the habit and are looking for available options, helping to overcome withdrawal symptoms on the way towards the desired result.

If you have already tried to search the Internet or other resources for smoking treating options, you have probably noticed that number of proposals, advertised as the best way to quit smoking. To orient oneself in that range is as hard as to find the right building in absolutely unknown city in foreign country.

I would like to help, playing the role of a guide in the city of many remedies, supposed to help quit smoking.

Imagine that we are starting an excursion or journey throughout the city, at the beginning of which is your firm decision to quit and our destination is complete cessation of smoking forever, which is at the end of the city. During the journey we will see many stores, each offering you certain remedies to make our traveling easier and faster. So, fasten your belts, the journey begins.

At the very beginning of the city we are faced with two different roads leading to the same place of destination. They are called “Nicotine Way” and “Non-nicotine Way”, both leading us to “Quit Smoking” point.

Let us take Nicotine Way at first. Going this road, we can see several stores, named “Nicotine patches”, “Nicotine gums”, “Nicotine nasal sprays and inhalers” and “Nicotine lozenges”. All of them offer different goods to ease your way to quitting, which is full of obstacles, like withdrawal symptoms and cravings.

You can take any of those goods, but remember about the sign at the beginning of the Nicotine Way, saying “No smoking”. That means that you can use any of the above mentioned options, but you should not smoke even a single cigarette with them.

Here I would like to make a short stop to explain the differences between all the goods, offered in the stores. They are all called Nicotine Replacement therapies (NRTs) and affect the human organism in the same way, supplying it with nicotine after smoking the last cigarettes. But they do it in steady and smooth manner without “nicotine hits”, thus letting one gradually decrease nicotine level and overcome the cravings for new cigarettes.

Important note: NRTs supply nicotine, but not tars and poisonous gases, which come from the cigarettes.

All the NRTs differ in their forms: patches, chewing gums, nasal sprays or inhalers, hard candies. It is made so that everyone could choose the option, which suites him best. For example, if you feel urge necessity to have something in your mouth instead of cigarette, please take nicotine chewing gum, like Nicorette or Nicotine polacrilex.

If you like candies, try nicotine lozenges.

Nasal sprays and inhalers (Nicotrol) are for those people, who prefer more “medication-like” look of the remedies. Keep in mind that in order to make a purchase in the store with sprays and inhalers, you need a prescription from your doctor.

Now let us return to the beginning of our virtual city and take another road, called Non-nicotine Way. There is only one store at this street, offering only one remedy, called Zyban, but the road itself is rather broad and straight, therefore you can distinctly see the destination point of our journey.

To buy Zyban, you need a prescription, after that you can forget about cravings and withdrawal symptoms and enjoy the travel to our goal. By the way, Zyban is made in the form of oral pills, so it is very convenient to take it. Moreover it is not an alternative source of nicotine (like goods, sold on the Nicotine Way) - Zyban works on the biochemical level in your head to help quit smoking.

Here we are now – the destination point. Please note that it is the same for both ways, but its length and sightseeing around are different.

Now you can take your own way to quit smoking.
