“Law never is, but is always about to be”, once said a well-known American lawyer and jurist, who lived at the dawn of the 20th century. Indeed, it looks like we live in a world, where everything is relative; and the theory of relativity seems to affect even the things like law, which by definition should be absolute, but not relative…
Well, do not hurry to switch the channel – what you are reading really has a direct reference to medicine, and the above statement about law is nothing but a small lyric digression before introducing Silagra (sildenafil citrate) – one of the widely-spread cheap alternatives to Viagra.
While the law in the United States protects the first anti-impotence drug Viagra by patent, not allowing pharmaceutical companies, except for the one that developed such a blockbusting drug, to produce their own generic analogues of the original drug; the generic and, consequently, much cheaper medications with the same working ingredient come from countries, where patent law works in the way different from that of the USA.
Of course, the lawfulness of selling Viagra alternatives in the countries, where the patent remains valid, cannot be questioned; but the fact remains that generic versions of Viagra are widely offered at a variety of online pharmacies, and the great difference in price (about 2-4 dollars for generic pill versus up to $15 for the original Viagra) creates a huge temptation for many men to try a cheaper version of the popular medication against erectile dysfunction. So, let us leave the legal issues on generic medications for lawyers, and focus more at the features of a particular product, called Silagra, – its therapeutic characteristics, effectiveness, and safety for patients.
So, first of all, it should be mentioned that Silagra is a product manufactured by Cipla, one of the most prominent pharmaceutical companies, funded in 1935 and located in India. Since the Indian law allows no patents on medications, Cipla can legally produce those drugs, which are considered to be monopolized due to patent law in other countries.
By its chemical composition, Silagra is absolutely the same as the original drug Viagra – it contains the same working ingredient called sildenafil citrate, which works by improving the blood inflow to the penis and thus promoting its erection in response to sexual stimulation. It is interesting to note that Silagra is manufactured in the same dosages as the original drug – 25mg, 50 mg and 100 mg. Even the name Silagra sounds like a variation of Viagra (Sildenafil + Viagra).
If one decides to try Silagra for the first time, it is recommended to start with the lowest available dose with the lowest risk of adverse reaction. However, Silagra is available on the web mostly in its maximum strength, so keep that in mind and pay attention to the dosage.
Silagra should be taken in approximately 1 hour before a planned sex activity, and avoid taking more than 1 tablet for 24 hours. The most serious warning about taking Silagra is that this medication should in no way be taken by people, who takes medications based on nitrates, such as nitroglycerin pills, for example, as this may lead to serious health complications. By the way, this warning is valid for original Viagra as well.

After taking Silagra, a man should be ready for some side effects, which are rare, but still occur as with any other medication. Headache and flushing are, perhaps, the most common side effects of Silagra; but the pill may also make you see things in blue – such specific vision disturbance has also been reported after Viagra use.
So, comparing effectiveness, safety, indications and contraindications of Silagra, it becomes obvious that those aspects are pretty close to those of the original drug Viagra. The major difference between them is that while in the USA legally-approved generic versions of Viagra are expected not earlier than after 2012, Indian pharmaceutical companies have already started the production of their own copies of the original drug, offering it with substantial price discounts.
