Is Caverta Effective for Treating Impotence?

Most of the online pharmacies, offering generic forms of the world-known and popular ED medications, such as Viagra, Cialis or Levitra, actually sell just the copies of the brand-name pills, produced in India. In fact, real generic Viagra is not yet officially available in the USA or Europe because of the patent protecting this brand-name formulation.

However, in India with its own patent system pharmaceutical companies have started to produce their own replicas of Viagra, Levitra and Cialis long ago. Based on sildenafil citrate - the same working ingredient as the original Viagra, Indian versions of Viagra are usually the exact copies of Pfizer’s blockbuster drug from the therapeutic point of view, differing only in packaging design, pill color, taste and, of course, price. Caverta, produced by a pharmaceutical giant Ranbaxy, is one of the Indian answers to Viagra.

Reviewing Caverta as one of the cost-saving options against erectile dysfunction, the first thing worth of mentioning is that the drug has its own web-site, ecaverta.com, with much important information, explaining what the medication is, how it works and what potential adverse reactions may appear after taking Caverta. This is definitely an advantage of Caverta, because not many cheap alternatives to Viagra are supplied with the full medicinal information.

Caverta’s main compound is sildenafil citrate, which belongs to a group of inhibitors of PDE-5 enzymes. According to the available information, Caverta works by relaxing the smooth muscles in the penis, which allows more blood to flow into the male organ, providing its erection. However, it is important to understand that erection can not be provided by Caverta only – the pill will only work when a man is sexually excited or stimulated. In other words, the drug helps the human body function just as it is naturally supposed to – to initiate penis erection before sexual intercourse, keep it during the process and subside it afterwards.

By the way, Ranbaxy says Caverta is effective for as many as 80% of the patients. The medication starts to work in about 30 minutes after administration and remains effective within 4 hours; though it is usually recommended to take a pill of Caverta in about 1 hour before a planned sexual contact.

So, since Caverta features the same active ingredient as Viagra – these two drugs should be therapeutically equivalent, at least theoretically, with the same rate of effectiveness and safety.

Caverta is manufactured in the same dosages as original Viagra – 25 mg, 50 mg and 100 mg. However, keep in mind that stronger dose always mean higher rate of side effects. For example, the manufacturer draws the attention of patients to the risk of temporary impairment of color discrimination (one may see all the things in blue), when 100mg or 200 mg of Caverta is taken.

Common side effects after taking Caverta are headache, facial flushing, dyspepsia and nasal congestion. Rarely, penis erection may last longer than it is necessary. It is said that when erection lasts longer than 4 hours – it is recommended to contact a medicinal facility immediately.

Speaking about warnings and contraindications specific for Caverta – these are the same as for Viagra – elderly patients and those with hepatic or renal impairment should take lower dose of the pill (25 mg). Because of interaction between sildenafil and organic nitrates – these medications are strongly contraindicated for simultaneous use. Anti-HIV drugs, such as ritonavir, are able of increasing the systemic levels of sildenafil significantly; therefore, not more than 25mg of sildenafil are allowed for people on anti-HIV therapy.

Finally, since the efficacy, safety, and precautions are pretty similar between Caverta and Viagra, there is still one aspect, which forms a prominent difference between these two drugs. It is price… While the original branded Viagra costs somewhere between $12 - $22 per one pill, Caverta is offered at a price of about $2 - $7 per one pill depending on the amount ordered. And, of course, since Caverta is not authorized in the USA, there is no need to ask a doctor for prescription…

I've been taking Caverta for well over three years. Because of the price I can take it daily which means I still get an erection in the shower in the morning and when I go to bed in the evening - not bad for a guy who turned seventy last month. And at least once a week I pop another pill just before "show time" - not bad for an old man!
