It is hard to contradict the fact that women carry on their fragile shoulders not only jugs with liquid substances (well, hope they still do this somewhere), but also lots of the cares of the day. The question of contraception often becomes one of those, especially after the discovery and introduction of oral contraceptives in the 1930s. Since then woman all over the world greatly favored the Pill (another popular name for the oral contraceptives).
Now, several words about what is the essence of hormonal contraception and how it works.
Birth-control pills are based on two synthetic hormones - a progestin and an estrogen. These hormones are two female sex hormones responsible for the prevention of ovulation. Another action (sometimes arguable as a side effect) is thickening of the cervical mucus, which can prevent or slow sperm entry into the uterus and thinning the lining of the uterus to prevent pregnancy from developing.
So if you start taking the pills, you should know how the cycle of their use works. Pregnancy-preventing pills go in packets of 21, 28, or 91 tablets which should be taken by mouth every day of a regular cycle. Since these are hormonal pills, it is better to take them with the food or milk to avoid an upset stomach. Ways of taking, risks and benefits of the Pill vary within brands, but theres generally accepted formula of hoe it should be taken.
If you chose a 21-tablet packet, one pill each day should be taken with the seven day break before the next package. 28-tablet packet is consumed on the same pattern, though instead of making the break you keep taking the pills of a different color (they go in the same packet). These seven pills do not contain any active components; it is just a reminder for you to keep the daily habit. You should start a new 28-tablet packet the day after the previous one is finished.
91-day packet consists of three trays. The concept is the same: 28 pills in each, seven of them being inactive. Some brands release colored pills with iron, necessary element for the time when the woman is on her period.

Oral contraceptives should be started on the first or fifth day of the menstrual period (you may also choose the first Sunday after or on which bleeding begins as a starting point). Also remember that during first seven days of taking pills should be supported with another method of contraception.
Most of the details as for oral contraception are better to be discussed with your doctor he is the one who can give you the best advice on how this method can impact your health. Just note that birth-control pills can increase chance of liver tumors, breast or liver cancer, a heart attack or a stroke, also a serious blood clot.
Anyway, if you have any doubts or precautions as for oral contraception, luckily, there are more ways to protect yourself from undesired pregnancy. Hope this time mans shoulder is there for you.
