One More Hormonal Contraception Option - NuvaRing
Nowadays the contraception question has quite a number of answers. It is a great bonus for a modern woman. But at the same time, with the regular contraception market enlargement there is dilemma arising - what option to choose with the benefit for health and effective result?

Here is one of the solutions that is safe, simple and convenient. NuvaRing is the birth control flexible ring inserted into vagina for one month. It is two inches in diameter device that releases progestin and estrogen over the course of 3-4 weeks to prevent pregnancy. The NuvaRing mechanism of action is similar to oral contraceptives – hormones prevent ovary from ovulation, make the uterine lining thinner than usual and the thickening of cervix muscle caused be their action helps prevent sperm from entering the uterus. Vagina walls absorb released hormones and pass them into the bloodstream.

Compared to the oral contraception action, the NuvaRing’s release of hormones is slow and steady, which provides fewer hormonal ups and downs associated with daily pills.

NuvaRing was approved by FDA in 2001 and has been available in the United States and Europe since 2002; today more than 1,5 million woman are using the ring as their contraception method. There’s no need to see the specialist for insertion – it is easily fixed in by the woman and is extracted within 3 weeks to let the menstruation begin.

This method of contraception has quite a number of advantages. Women who use NuvaRing report on shorter, lighter and more regular periods. And the fertility is rather easily restored after the ring is extracted from vagina. The ring doesn’t interfere with sex and possesses some health benefits: it protects against infection of the fallopian tubes and ectopic pregnancy, can prevent the development of ovarian cyst and cancer of the ovaries, and ease pre-menstrual symptoms.

Before choosing NuvaRing as the contraception method, you should consider the precautions about its use. Women who smoke should not use the ring since the risk of getting cardiovascular side effects greatly increases in such cases. Breastfeeding women should also avoid this contraception method since hormones can influence the quality of the milk and can cause the yellowing of the baby’s skin. Don’t use
