Lotrimin – Powerful Cure for Athlete’s Foot, Jock Itch and Ringworm

Lotrimin is a family of medications that are used widely to treat certain skin fungal infections in humans. Here belong athlete’s foot, jock itch and ringworm. But before talking about Lotrimin in particular, let us research a little about the fungi and how they get onto the human bodies.

Sometimes after visiting a gym or a public pool, we can get not only a vivacity and energy charge, but also a certain amount of fungi – microscopic organisms, which travel from one person to another in search of new places to settle. A human can get fungi by walking barefoot in public pools, contacting shower utensils, or some personal things, like towels or clothing of other people. After fungi have settled at a new place they start to reproduce themselves, and fungal infection occurs.

By the way, do you know why public pools are most frequently blamed for spreading fungal infections? The answer is simple – fungi prefer moist and warm places to live, and pools and showers offer perfect conditions for them. So do certain places on the human body – soles of the feet, areas between toes, groin area, inner parts of thighs – these are the usual places for fungi to settle on the human body, because all of them are warm, moist and usually dark (when covered by clothing, of course).

What to do in case of skin fungal infection?

Well, avoiding the public pool, where you got the infection, could definitely be an answer. However, modern medicine offers solutions, which allow us to get rid of the fungi without giving up favorite activities, like regular swimming or visiting gyms. Lotrimin is one of such medicinal options against skin fungal infections. Furthermore, all of the Lotrimin products are available over-the-counter, so once you identified your fungal infection – you can get the cure even without asking your doctor for prescription.

What conditions can be treated with Lotrimin?

Lotrimin is helpful for athlete’s foot (tinea pedis), jock itch (tinea cruris) and ringworm (tinea corporis). These disorders are the most common types of skin fungal infections. All of them may be caused by the same fungi, but the key difference is the particular place on the human body, where the fungi decided to settle. In case of athlete’s foot – it is the human feet (not limited to the feet of athletes only:), between toes or at the sides of the feet. Jock itch is the fungal infection, which targets the most intimate area of males – the groin and the inner thigh. And ringworm usually appears on the trunk (the ringworm rash resembles rings).

All the above mentioned fungal infections usually manifest themselves through similar symptoms, such as discomfort, itching, burning and scaling at the place of the fungal infection.

How does Lotrimin treat fungal infections?

In fact, Lotrimin simply kills the fungi. The medication may contain either clotrimazole, or butenafine hydrochloride, depending on the particular product. Both these substances can attach to the fungi cell membrane, weaken it and make the cell content leak out of the cell. This definitely kills the fungi.

Clotrimazole is used in the Lotrimin AF products, and butenafine hydrochloride is used in Lotrimin Ultra formulations. The latter products are considered to be more powerful against fungal infections.

How to use Lotrimin to get rid of skin fungal infection?

Before using Lotrimin cream it is necessary to clean the affected area with soap and water, and dry it carefully. Then a thin layer of cream should be applied and rubbed gently into the skin. This operation should be repeated regularly according to the label instructions or doctor’s recommendations until the end of the treatment period (even if the improvements appeared on the next day after the begging of treatment). If you get Lotrimin in the form of spray or powder – use it according to the instructions on the package.

When to expect improvements with Lotrimin?

The terms may vary depending on the particular condition treated or a strength of the formulation used. In the majority of cases, 2 weeks of once-a-day application is enough to treat jock itch or ringworm. Athlete’s foot may require up to 4 weeks, or you can make it in one week with twice-a-day application of Lotrimin cream.
