How to Prevent Eczema Flare-ups

A fire car, rushing to the spot of fire, will definitely fulfill its duty and sooner or later will put the spreading fire down. No doubt, every case of such disaster will be overwhelmed by the firemen. However, everyone shares the opinion that it is much better to prevent fire than to make strenuous efforts and to suffer losses (time, money, and strength) trying to put it down. This is the reason why fire departments take infinite pains to educate people how to protect themselves from the devastating power of fire.

Of course, it is much easier to buy a fire extinguisher, keep the matches away from children, or get rid of a habit to smoke in bed than to eliminate the consequences of fire, bearing not only financial losses, but health losses as well.

Eczema flare-ups are similar in this aspect to fire: in many cases it is easier to prevent or suppress them from the very beginning than to start the treatment when the outbreak is already in its climax. Here are some of the easiest, nonetheless very effective tips, which can help prevent eczema outbreaks.

 
  1. Moisturize your skin properly, as this will help avoid dryness and lessen the itching – the most prominent eczema symptoms. Moreover, skin dehydration is the quickest way to eczema outbreak; therefore, applying a good moisturizer after showering or every time skin becomes dry will be an effective means to prevent eczema flare-ups.
  2. Avoid skin irritants. Here belong harsh soaps, cosmetic products and perfumes, laundry detergents and household cleaners, wool and synthetic materials. All these things can harmfully affect sensitive skin making it dry, irritated, red, and itchy, which, in the long run, can result in eczema outbreak.
  3. Learn your individual eczema triggers. Though there are a number of things, commonly acknowledged as skin irritants, capable of affecting even not sensitive skin, people with eczema can be susceptible to a lot of other products, objects, and materials. Plants, jewelry, carpets, linen, or any other stuff at home or elsewhere can be your personal trigger. Getting to know and avoiding them will preserve you from eczema outbreak.
  4. Avoid sweating and overheating. It goes without saying that excessive sweating and overheating influence the state of the skin negatively. Sensitive skin or that prone to eczema is double subjected to their influence. Avoid these triggers to prolong the duration of eczema-free periods.
  5. Avoid excessive moisture and too dry air. Soaking in water for more than 20 minutes will result in drying of the skin. Its pruning is the vivid sign of the damage done. As for the dry air, it is recommended to use a humidifier indoors. All the means are good in eczema prevention, aren’t they?
  6. Avoid food allergens. Not only things that come in direct contact with skin can cause an outbreak of eczema. It is also very important, it may even be crucial, what is going on inside the body. Food we consume often becomes a trigger of eczema. The most common products, which provoke a flare-up of the disorder, are: milk, eggs whites, peanuts, fish, soy, wheat, citrus fruits, tomatoes and grapes.
  7. Wear loose clothes. Loose-fitting cotton clothes are considered to be the best for sensitive skin, since they do not rub it as synthetic or woolen materials, as well as tight clothes. Loose cotton clothes let skin breathe, thus preventing irritation.
  8. Wash new and double rinse all the clothes. This should be done in order to wash away any extra chemicals manufacturers may use. Double rinsing helps get rid of the washing powder, which is a common reason of skin irritation and eczema flare-ups.
  9. Avoid pets; beware of dust, fungus, and pollen. Pets fur and furthers belong to skin irritants; moreover, animals also secrete substances on their skin surface, which for many people work as eczema triggers. As for the house dust, fungus and plants pollen, they were always considered mighty skin irritants. Avoiding them will definitely be beneficial for eczema sufferers.

  10. Avoid stress. Lifestyle modifications include the reduction of stress as well. Anxiety, strain, stress, and depression aggravate many health disorders, eczema is among them too. Learning relaxation techniques, seeking for psychological support will be rewarded with longer period without eczema symptoms.
 It is often a great challenge to follow wise pieces of advice; nevertheless, whenever it seems next to impossible to do it, remember that it is easier to prevent a fire that to extinguish it.
