There is no disease with a single reason for its development. As a result, even patients, suffering from only one condition, nonetheless, have to take several pills at once to eliminate the disorder or lessen its symptoms.
These days, scientists work not only on discovering more effective options against this or that condition, they also try to employ different methods and techniques to ease the therapy of millions of patients and make it more convenient and effective.
One of such successful experiments, aimed at simplifying the treatment, became the release of Prevpac - medication used to treat ulcers caused by bacterial infection (most often it is Helicobacter pylori), as well as to prevent the recurrence of duodenal ulcers. Prevpac is made in the form of daily dose cards, which include doses to be taken in the morning and in the evening. Each dose consists of four pills: acid-reducing drug Prevacid, two capsules of antibiotic amoxicillin, and another antibiotic BIAXIN Filmtab (clarithromycin).
Prevpac belongs to the proton-pump inhibitors, which stop the production of stomach acid interfering with the work of stomach lining. Antibiotics in this drug can either kill or inhibit the growth of bacteria in the ulcers. Clarithromycin is the agent most often used to eliminate Helicobacter pylori in ulcer disease, which, in its turn, is the most frequent aggravating condition (and sometimes the reason) of this illness. Therefore, Prevpac has a double action, and thus double benefits.
At the same time, it is worthy to note that this combination of medicines does not increase the overall risks of suffering from side effects. The most common ones reported are only diarrhea, headache, and taste disturbances. However, some people may experience constipation, nausea, and gas. Allergic reactions are not common, although, people sensitive to any ingredient should ask a doctor about the possibility to take these pills.
Prevpac is not recommended during pregnancy as it contains clarithromycin, which is harmful to an unborn or breastfed baby. People suffering from kidney and liver disorders may be poor candidates for the use of this drug. Seniors, on the other hand, are said to tolerate the drug as well as younger adults without the risks of specific side effects occurrence or their severity.
Combining Prevpac with cardiovascular medicines, anticonvulsants, antifungals, aspirin, cholesterol-lowering drugs, iron supplements and a number of other medications may increase the severity of side effects and influence therapy results. Be sure to inform a doctor about any drug or supplement you are currently taking prior to starting Prevpac.
It is stated in some sources that ulcers in the upper part of the small intestine tend to be healed better and not bother a sufferer any more once Helicobacter pylori is killed. Hopefully, Prevpac is the medication, which can help all the sufferers of this disease to finally get rid of it.
