We are in the habit of saying that pharmaceutical drugs are powerful if they work effectively for many patients. Scientists do their best to increase the effectiveness of medications producing pills with the higher dose of the active ingredient, searching for the new chemical substances capable of fighting this or that disease, or combining two different components, either of which is known to fight the same health disorder.
Advicor, one of the best pills called to reduce elevated levels of bad cholesterol, belongs to the latter class of the drugs; namely to those, in which two components are combined together in order to increase the effectiveness of the pills.
Let us see what benefits the combination of two different strengths offers the patients treated with this cholesterol-lowering means.
Advicor active components are lovastatin and niacin. Both constituents are lipid-altering agents. (Lipids are such substances as fats, cholesterol, triglycerides, lipoproteins, phospholipids, etc.) That means Advicor ingredients interfere with lipids production, storage, and their functioning in the body.
Though scientists are still not sure how exactly niacin works, they suggest that this constituent acts in several directions: partially inhibiting the release of free fatty acids from the fat tissues found under the skin or around internal organs (they are called adipose tissues); increasing lipoprotein lipase activity; and decreasing the rates of hepatic synthesis of very-low-density lipoprotein (VLDL) and low-density lipoprotein (LDL).
Niacin starts working in the body after it is converted into nicotinamide. The effect of its action are reduced levels of LDL (bad cholesterol), protein components of certain lipoprotein complexes (the so-called “apolipoproteins”), lowered rates of triglycerides (TG) removal from plasma resulting in the lowered TG levels, and increased levels of high-density lipoprotein (good cholesterol).
Lovastatin is converted into lovastatin acid prior to the onset of its action in the body. Its main goal is to block up the production of bad cholesterol. The mission is carried out by inhibiting 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-coenzyme A reductase, which under the usual circumstances is converted into mevalonate, thus creating favorable conditions for cholesterol production.

Lovastatin power can lower not only elevated LDL levels, but its normal rates and TG levels as well. On the other hand, due to this component of Advicor high-density lipoprotein is increased.
Chemical processes taking place in the human body are very complex and difficult to understand. However, it is obvious that Advicor is powerful enough to change them in order to prevent the development of many dangerous and even life-threatening health conditions. A patient should only remember that his task is to help these pills by following a healthy diet plan and exercising every day. In that case Advicor will work not in vain, and a patient will be able to feel all the benefits the drug offers to his body.
