I won't say cigarettes are our friends, because everyone knows they are not. However, in some situations they help a lot...

My cousin Max is 21. He spends all his free time in the company of his fellow-students, comes home late at night, and smokes. But he is a good, kind and funny guy. Unfortunately, not everyone can see it at once.

There is a girl in their company, who attracts all guys' attention each time she appears. Certainly, my cousin, being a normal guy, couldn't help noticing her. Very soon this sympathy developed into something like love… unrequited love. Max talked my ears off about her! He described me again and again how she looked at him several times or how she reacted to his jokes and stories. Each time he went out he put his best clothes on, used different perfume, read interesting literature; and all this was just to attract her attention.

He knew she liked boys with a good sense of humor, who could tell jokes and funny stories. So, he tried to joke, however, unsuccessfully. Moreover, Max noticed that another guy from his company got more luck in this. It disappointed him so much! Max was afraid his rival would capture the beauty's heart. He almost lost his hope, but an accident changed everything radically.

One evening the company gathered (as usual) in the yard. When Max came there she was already in the company of guys. This picture distressed him a lot. The day before my cousin had seen a movie about some cowboy, who was a favorite of women. There was an episode, when that cool guy threw out a smoked cigarette with his lips only, without using his hands. It looked so great that all the women, who saw it, began squeaking with delight.

Certainly, one should practice such a trick before doing it in public. However, our Romeo didn't even think about that; he wanted to impress his beloved girl as soon as possible and was sure he would manage to perform the trick. So, without saying a word he began moving his lips trying to throw the smoked cigarette away. He was doing his best, but the cigarette just stuck to his lips! Soon some people noticed him making faces and began giggling. But it was only the beginning.

Max wasn't going to give up and pretended as if it should have been this way. Suddenly, the cigarette was turned somehow in his mouth so that its glowing tip appeared right opposite Max's left eye! Poor actor felt incredible pain in his eye and saw puff of smoke coming out of the eye! With a loud squeal he threw the cigarette away with his hand and yelled for help.

"Damn! I've burnt my eyelashes!" Only after these words Max finally noticed everyone rolling with laughter. My cousin felt miserable and so ashamed. The guy was going to leave when he saw that the girl of his dreams was laughing, too. Moreover, she even said, "Oh, Max, you're so funny!" This made him feel in heaven; therefore, he calmed down and relaxed.

It happened last week; and though my cousin lacks eyelashes on his left eye, he at last managed to attract the attention of the most beautiful girl in their company. Max is not her boyfriend yet, but it’s just a matter of time, as he confirms. They like each other and spend much time together. He is doing his best; I'm sure they will date very soon.
